In March 2023, the Animal control officials in Ohio were concerned about an exotic serval cat. Reportedly, Hamilton County dog wardens responded to reports in of a ‘leopard’ spotted in a tree in Oakley. So they went to remove the animal and bring it to Cincinnati Animal Care.
The Officials retrieved the animal from the tree and brought it to Cincinnati Animal Care (CAC), though it suffered a broken leg in the process.
The CAC community engagement manager Ray Anderson told Cincinnati NBC affiliate WLWT. that a DNA test confirmed the cat, named ‘Amiry’ was an exotic breed known as a serval.
Later, a different test determined something unusual about Amiry that it tested positive for cocaine, though exactly how remains a mystery.
Amiry is now at the Cincinnati Zoo, which issued a statement. Further, it was reported that the cat’s owner has been cooperating with officials and has not been charged. The investigation remains open and things could change depending on if more information surfaces.
