A passenger takes over as drunk driver leaves bus on Agra-Delhi highway.

The UP Roadways has more than twice the number of contract drivers compared to the regular drivers.

Reportedly on 19th February, a driver of Uttar Pradesh roadways bus carrying 42 passengers abandoned the vehicle on the Agra-Delhi highway while traveling from Agra to Mathura. This twenty-five-year old named Suraj Kumar Mishra was recruited as driver in the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) six months ago for the route between Lucknow and Prayagraj.

Later, the passengers tried calling officials of the UPSRTC and a passenger named Kapil, a 40-year-old computer science graduate took over the steering wheel and drove the bus for over 40km, towards Mathura. A video showing this incident has gone viral.

The driver has now been removed. Further, a notice has been issued to the private contractor who owns the bus. An action will also be taken based on the probe.
